Meet The Team

Nate Pretl, Director of Government and Community Relations

What is your role, and what does a typical day at Chasen look like?

As the Director of Government and Community Relations, I play a number of roles and there is no typical day for me at Chasen. I oversee the development approval process for new projects and work with city officials, community leaders and stakeholders across the city to help create the vision that ultimately becomes a Chasen Property.

What is a hobby of yours that you believe is beneficial in the workplace?

Basketball has long been a hobby of mine, however becoming involved in local civic matters such as my community association and the board of my daughter’s school is probably more beneficial at work (and certainly takes more of my free time).

What Baltimore community is your favorite?

I am originally from Fells Point, so I am a bit biased, but I truly believe there is not another neighborhood in the country that compares to Fells Point. I value its combination of historic buildings, significance to US history, walkability, festive atmosphere, water views, belgian block streets and innumerable other qualities.

App you can’t live without?

An app I can’t live without is Uber. I have been living the car free lifestyle for a few years now, but getting around Baltimore is not always possible without having some access to a car, so that’s where uber comes in.

First job?

My first job was as a campaign staffer in one of the Maryland gubernatorial elections - which is a job best suited for those with lots of time and few other obligations.

You have 30 minutes of free time - how do you spend it?

If I had 30 minutes of free time and there was a court nearby, I would play some basketball.

Would you rather: Design or build?

Design!
