Live Well at The Darcy in Federal Hill

A picturesque neighborhood with lively nightlife, Federal Hill is situated next to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and lies just south of the central business district.

Residents have the opportunity to experience scenic views of the Harbor, Downtown, Federal Hill Park, and have access to countless pubs, shops, live music venues, Historic Cross Street Market and the American Visionary Art Museum--all within walking distance. The neighborhood is also located near Maryland’s top sporting venues including Camden Yards Stadium and M&T Bank Stadium.

The Darcy, a Chasen property located at 1702 Light Street, is located in the heart of Federal Hill. We’re taking a closer look at all the must-see experiences our residents enjoy in this vibrant neighborhood.

Feast in and around Federal Hill

Just steps from the Darcy lies HomeSlyce Federal Hill, a local pizzeria and pub with a laid-back atmosphere and countless ways to customize your pizza pie.  Further south on Wells Street is Papi Cuisine, a new Caribbean infusion restaurant owned by two locals. We hear the Ultimate Seafood Alfredo is off the charts.

Continue south just beyond Federal Hill to the Port Covington area to experience the Sagamore Spirit Distillery Campus. A world-class waterfront distillery open five days a week for tours and tastings, the site also is home to Nineteen O Nine Rye Whiskey Bar.

Heading back towards the center of Federal Hill you’ll find Watershed, a classic Maryland seafood house located in the newly renovated Cross Street Market.  An expansive rooftop deck offers great views of the neighborhood with a covered bar, gaming area, and plenty of room to enjoy steamed crabs.

Around the corner is Blue Agave, a festive Mexican eatery and tequila bar. Stop in for a premium margarita and stay for the chorizo mac and cheese and carnitas which are always a hit.

Last but not least, a Federal Hill food experience isn’t complete without stopping at Bmore Licks, a second-generation family-owned ice cream shop with more than 100 flavors of handmade soft-serve ice cream.

Historic Parks and Museums

Federal Hill and the surrounding area are home to many historic parks and museums. Four short blocks east of The Darcy lies Riverside Park, a 17-acre public park with a pool. One of the oldest parks in Baltimore’s park system, the site was at one time used as a lookout point across South Baltimore and the Patapsco River during the War of 1812. Today, locals enjoy playing sports, running, and walking dogs throughout the park.

Heading east from Riverside down Fort Avenue brings you to Latrobe Park, one of the largest recreation areas for organized sports, playgrounds and a dog run.

Follow the waterfront along Key Highway and there lies a signature Baltimore landmark, Federal Hill Park. Home to one of the most iconic views in the city, the park overlooks the Inner Harbor and is a popular picnic spot. At one time the location served as a defensive stronghold during the War of 1812 and the Civil War thanks to its panoramic views of Baltimore.

Just below Federal Hill Park lies Rash Field, home to a playground, as well as nature, skate and adventure parks set to open in late 2021. Around the corner is The American Visionary Art Museum, one of the most fantastic museums in America (CNN). The museum showcases original thematic exhibitions that combine art, science, philosophy, humor and especially social justice and betterment.

Fort McHenry National Historic Monument is a 42-acre park located at the easternmost point of the South Baltimore peninsula. The defense of Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814 inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The grounds surrounding Fort McHenry are open to the public for free and include a waterfront path for walking, running or biking as well as plenty of room for a picnic or frisbee toss.
